What Dawn & Kalenna have learned… -
Posted by Jennifer on July 29th, 2010 | Filed Under: Dawn, Kalenna

Dawn and Kaleena of Diddy Dirty Money reveal brief lessons learned from people they’ve encountered since entering the business. Check them out below:

What Dawn Learned From…

…Patti Labelle

“The first thing she said to me was ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff don’t let those people make you crazy,’ she saw me on Making The Band and saw how I was being treat. That felt so good coming from her.”

…Diddy

“The grind. ‘The man that doesn’t work doesn’t eat.’ That is the word of God, but Diddy stays true to that.”

…My Father

“He told me a long time ago: No matter how hard this get you have people at home that keep you grounded.”

…Kaleena

“I learned from her don’t let anyone tell you “no” this girl goes and goes. No one can tell her anything she knows who she is.

What Kalenna learned…

…Lady Gaga

“I realized I wasn’t the only weird out the box person on this earth. She made me feel it was ok to be this way and be comfortable.”

…Rodney Jerkins and the Darkchild Family

“They taught me to understand what a great song/record is. We all move off of energy and a great song can be so powerful.”

…Dawn

“I learned how to be so much more patient and understanding. I’m better singer being around her. She is so all about her craft.”

…Diddy

“I learned how to grind. Never stop now matter how much you get you can always get more. I’m learning to believe and have faith.”

Dr. Dre said that the last beat that floored him was “All About the Benjamins.” How does that make you feel?
It’s humbling. I was in the studio with Dre the other day. He started working on a record for me. Watching him as a producer is watching greatness. We had a lot of similar traits. It was like looking in the mirror. He would ask questions like, “How you feel about this?” People don’t really understand true producers want to know how you feel about things. We are some of the most observant people on the planet. Read the rest of this entry »

Dawn Richard:9 Lives of a Feline Fatale

Many fans of this pop-star would agree that she has shown herself to be comparable to a feline with her natural ability to overcome several situations in the past few years. Dawn Richards, a singer and songwriter, gave Kontrol a little insight on how she has become the woman she is today. Her first major debut in the entertainment spotlight was on the third season of P. Diddy’s “Making the Band”. There she was able to become part of one of the hottest female groups to hit the airwaves, Danity Kane.

Danity Kane proved themselves to be a force to be reckoned with, by releasing two #1 albums. The fame seemed to quickly fall shortly thereafter, as many rumors began surfacing and individual members of the group felt what they believed to be favoritism on Diddy’s behalf. “Puff doesn’t favor people, he’s a businessman and knows talent; it’s that simple”, Dawn immediately responds back during the interview. Although the plug was pulled on Danity Kane, Diddy quickly resurfaced with a new group featuring himself, Dawn Richards, and Kalenna Harper, who called themselves “Dirty Money”. When asked about her initial feelings of possibly being in a new group she responds, “I had a lot of armor on, especially with the situation with Danity Kane. I had the thought process of them being forever, so the idea of being in a new group was sort of skeptical, but the crazy thing is I had the idea of being in a group, hence, the whole reason for me doing “Making the Band”. It was a bittersweet thing; I wanted to be a part of something like that, so it was exciting to still be a part of a group, yet, scary knowing that I had to learn to like and to rely on a new set of people, one of them being my boss! The same guy who fired my previous group”, mentions Dawn laughingly. “I also wanted to kind of prove that the things being said, like the solo stuff weren’t true, because they really weren’t. I was battling to prove people wrong, to prove myself right, and then be a part of what I really wanted. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a movement with a group of people who shared the same passion, which I thought was Danity Kane, but when it disappeared and when the opportunity arouse itself I thought about making the right decision of joining another group because of my differences that people would not have understood”.

Dirty Money has released some of the hottest singles to include, “Love Come Down” and “Hello Good Morning”. When asked her favorite track on the upcoming album, Dawn responds “The album, the 67 records we have weighed down…there is a record we did with Danger called ‘Yea You Would’ that is amazing. ” Dawn, along with the other members of Dirty Money, hope to do solo projects in the future. “I think Dirty Money is going to be bigger and be around longer than what we really think” states Dawn.

Dirty Money featured in the NY POST -
Posted by Jennifer on June 30th, 2010 | Filed Under: Dirty Money, News

Diddy bugs, let’s be honest. However, his recent musical venture may just be the neon glowing bug zapper needed to shock him back on the scene.

Diddy, joined by former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard and the fierce as all get-out singer/songwriter Kalenna Harper, is now known as Diddy-Dirty Money. A unnecessarily hyphenated, overly funkified hip-hop trio that — dare I say — floats like a butterfly and stings like a hitmakin’ bee.

The gangs recent single, featuring T.I. and produced by Timbaland, is “Hello Good Morning” — a synth driven dance track that is pretty much what you would expect from the names involved. But that isn’t what got me, it simply drew me in like sweet nectar pop. The recently leaked “I Want Your Love,” from his upcoming album “Last Train to Paris” is the song that made me freak the mess out.

The single is down right brilliant. It’s a bit of Euro-pop meets old school David Guetta and then iced over with early 90′s hip-hop crème fraiche funk. Diddy says the album was highly influenced by “Felix da Housecat, Erick Morillo, Deep Dish, DJ Hell and being in Ibiza,” all of which can be heard in this lil’ nugget.

Confirmed cameos on the upcoming album include Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, (take a breath) Rick Ross, T.I., Swizz Beatz, and Bilal. Give “I Want Your Love” a listen below and prep your ears for the best beat I’ve found in weeks.

“Last Train to Paris” is out June 28, 2010 Bad Boy, Interscope Records
